Justin Bieber 'so proud' of Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai

Justin Bieber has spoken of his pride at seeing education activist Malala Yousafzai pick up the Nobel Peace Prize.

The 17-year-old rose to worldwide prominence in 2012 after being shot in the head by a masked gunman in her home country Pakistan.

She was targeted for previously speaking out against the rights of girls in her country to have an education. The Taliban accepted responsibility for the failed assassination attempt.

Yousafzai was given the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday (October 10) alongside Indian child rights campaigner Kailash Satyarthi.

Bieber spoke to Yousafzai in August via the internet and he took to Twitter on Sunday (October 12) to comment on her Peace Prize title.

The Canadian said: "Congratulations Malala on being the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner. I'm so proud of you."
