Justin Bieber tells fans: 'Don't let Instagram define your self-worth'

Canadian superstar Justin Bieber has posted a message to his Internet following about the dangers of being preoccupied with how you appear online and urged them not to fall prey to the pressures of social media.

He posted a screenshot of a quote, which reads 'don't let Instagram define your self-worth', and accompanied it with a few of his own thoughts about how our generation edits what we reveal about our lives online in order to make ourselves look more interesting or appealing to outsiders:

"For those who look at someone else's Instagram and say I wish my life was like that. Know that often Instagram is not who people really are but who they want people to think they are. I'm choosing to not let other people define me."

Songstress Taylor Swift also recently spoke out about the same issue and confessed that she doesn't upload pictures of herself in order to get likes or to feel some kind of validation, and instead prefers to use the photo sharing app for cute or funny things she experiences in her everyday life:

"I don't Instagram pictures of myself for people to be like 'Wow, that looks really sexy'. I take pictures of cute kittens, or when the ocean looks nice, or of a funny sign I saw in an airport."
