Justin Bieber has narrowly avoided going to jail after admitting charges of assault and and careless driving.

The singer was involved in a traffic accident in Stratford in Ontario, Canada, in August.

He was on a "peaceful retreat" with Selena Gomez, but the Canadian was involved when a mini van collided with an ATV. Both drivers later engaged in a physical confrontation.

Bieber admitted charges of assault and careless driving, but the former was discharged.

Another charge of dangerous driving was also dropped as part of the plea deal, with Bieber only having to pay a $750 (£490) fine for careless driving.
