Justin Bieber on 'pop' tag: 'I want to be seen as an artist'

Justin Bieber says he doesn't want to be considered just a "pop star".

The singer told Z100 that he "took a stand" against his record label in the pursuit to be known as an "artist".

The Canadian cited the example of music icon Michael Jackson as a musician who received the right status.

Bieber said of record labels: "They'll try to walk all over you. But if I wouldn't have taken a stand, I would've just ended up being like all the other pop stars.

"It's rare to find an artist in a pop star. Usually it's just a pop star. Michael Jackson was an artist...It's not just being a performer and good at what you do.

"There's a lot of people that can sing and dance, but it takes a lot to create and take it to the next level."
