Justin Bieber: 'I'm surrounded by better people who don't feed my ego'

Justin Bieber has offered more details about his personal evolution.

The singer has endured a tough past few years, with his behaviour repeatedly called into question.

The 21-year-old was filmed striking the paparazzi, while he was also arrested for DUI.

Speaking to KISS FM, an apologetic Bieber said he is now surrounded by better people who don't feed his ego.

The 'Believe' man said: "I would have just said to listen to the people who care about you the most, because I'm the type of person that needs to learn the hard way," he said of how he'd advise his younger self.

"I had a bunch of blind spots, I just didn't see them. I had a lot of people telling me I was awesome all the time, and you start believing it after a while.

"You can't really blame me. I'm a kid and if you start telling a kid you're amazing and you're this and that all the time...It just went to my head.

"But I think now, just having the friends that I have, and having the community that I have to support me and encourage me, it's just been a cool ride."

"I feel like I lost my purpose for a minute. I feel like I'm slowly gaining my purpose back and figuring out who I am.

"There's so much darkness and I have this opportunity to just spread this light and this hope. I just feel that there's no better time than right now."

Bieber meanwhile is due to release his new album 'Purpose' on November 13.
