Justin Bieber beats One Direction in US and Australian charts

Justin Bieber's latest album has beaten One Direction in the US and Australian charts.

The singer released 'Purpose' on November 13 - the same day One Direction unleashed their fifth effort 'Made in the A.M.'.

While the pop group reached No.1 in their native UK, Bieber has trumped them in the US and Australia.

It sold a massive 649,000 equivalent album units in America in its first week.

With One Direction landing at No.2 with 459,000 units, Bieber achieved his fourth straight No.1 record in the US.

The Canadian also reigned supreme on Australia's ARIA chart.

One Direction similarly reached No.2 down under - meaning they missed out on landing five consecutive No.1 albums in the country.
