Justin Bieber ploughs money into selfie photo sharing app

Justin Bieber has put hundreds of thousands of dollars into a new photo sharing app that focuses on 'selfies'.

The singer is well known for taking photos of himself and posting them online - just one of millions of people who do so every day.

However, he often comes under fire from onlookers for his apparently vain social networking interactions - and this has prompted the Canadian to invest money in a new app called Shots of Me.

It is developed by RockLive and it focuses solely on self-taken images, whereas other photo sharing hubs such as Instagram generally is dedicated to inanimate objects.

One of its main features is that public commenting is disabled in an effort to limit the amount of abuse sent online. Instead, people can private message each other.

RockLive CEO John Shahidi told TechCrunch that Justin Bieber invested the "majority" of a second-round funding phase total of $1.1m.

He added: "Honestly, [Justin] loved it. He was a bit annoyed by other platforms. The commenting thing was something he really cared about. Not just for himself, but for the kids. He said ‘I want a platform where my fans don’t have to deal with this'. We didn’t ask him for money. He said ‘I want to be part of this'."

Boxer Floyd Mayweather meanwhile was among the famous names who contributed financially to the project in its initial round of funding.
