Justin Timberlake on long songs: "If Pink Floyd can, why can't we?"

Justin Timberlake has defended his use of lengthy tracks.

The singer turned heads recently after it was revealed one of his new songs 'Mirrors' lasted eight minutes.

Whilst that length of song is deemed normal in some genres, pop music isn't generally used to such epic tracks.

Speaking to Capital FM, Timberlake said that cutting songs down to make a better fit for radio doesn't come into his mind when creating music, citing the likes of prog-rockers Pink Floyd as inspiration. He said:

"When we were making the record I said, 'If Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin can do 10-minute songs and Queen can do 10-minute songs then why can't we?'."

Timberlake continued: "We'll figure out the radio edits later."

The singer's new album 'The 20/20 Experience' meanwhile is due to be released in the UK on March 18.
