Justin Timberlake's new album headed for 900,000 copies sold in its opening week

'The 20/20 Experience' from Justin Timberlake is poised to become a record-breaking album.

Billboard reports that it's on its way to shifting 900,000 copies in its first week of release, which would give the singer the biggest sales debut for a male artist since 2010 when Lil Wayne's 'Tha Carter IV' managed 964,000 copies in its first week.

It has also been revealed that the last artist to achieve more than 750,000 copies sold in the opening week was Taylor Swift back in 2012 with her latest offering, 'Red'.

Timberlake's new cut is already set to be the biggest release of 2013 and it will beat the record for the year previously set by Mumford & Sons after 'Babel' peaked with sales figures of 631,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan.

In addition to making a significant impact on the charts, 'The 20/20 Experience' has been a success at chain store Target too. Anne Stanchfield, Target's divisional merchandise manager of entertainment, told Billboard: "Initial sales for 'The 20/20 Experience' at Target are exceeding our expectations and put it in a position to be one of our best-selling albums in the last 10 years."
