Justin Timberlake's new album sells just under 1m copies in the US

Justin Timberlake came frustratingly close to notching up one million first week sales in the US with his new album.

The pop icon recently released his comeback record 'The 20/20 Experience' and it hit No.1 in the UK instantly.

Its performance in Timberlake's native US was the subject of much speculation, but it was clear the album would chalk up impressive sales.

The album has indeed hit No.1 in the States, but the singer failed to break the one million first week sales barrier as he shifted a mere 968,000 units.

Timberlake's old band 'N Sync meanwhile hold the US record for first week sales after selling 2.42 million copies of their 2000 effort 'No Strings Attached'.
