Kanye West used 'religion, sex, and alcohol' to deal with Taylor Swift MTV VMAs backlash

Rapper Kanye West recently sat down with '12 Years A Slave' director Steve McQueen for Interview magazine and he opened up about the backlash that followed his very public interruption of Taylor Swift's 2009 MTV VMAs acceptance speech.

As Swift was on stage collecting her award, West jumped in front of her and snatched the microphone in order to tell the live audience as well as viewers at home that Beyoncé had released "the greatest music video of all time".

When asked by McQueen how he dealt with the fallout from the situation "mentally, physically, and spiritually", he explained: "It's funny that you would say 'mentally, physically, spiritually' because my answer before you even said that was going to be 'god, sex, and alcohol.'”

The 'Heartless' star was quick to add that his reliance on sex and booze were not dangerous because he doesn't find himself feeling 'addicted' to things: "Well, I don't have an addictive personality, so that means that I can lean on what might be someone else's vice just enough to make it through to the next day."

"...You know, just enough religion, a half-cup of alcohol with some ice in it and a nice chaser, and then... Yeah - a lot of sex. And then I'd make it to the next week."
