Kanye West has attempted to clarify his controversial comments at Beck winning a high-profile Grammy.

The US musician reigned supreme in the Album of the Year category at Sunday's (February 8) ceremony with 'Morning Phase'.

West later said that Beyoncé should have won the prize and that Beck needed to "respect artistry".

Speaking to TMZ, the rapper explained his motives but stated that Beyonce still should have won.

He said: "Beck knows that Beyoncé should have won, you know that."

"Come on, I love Beck. But he can't have album of the year."
