Kanye West to perform at the MTV VMAs

American rapper Kanye West has been confirmed as one of the performers at this year's MTV VMAs on August 25.

MTV made the exciting announcement this evening (August 5) and explained that he will take the stage at the ceremony, which will be held at Brooklyn's Barclays Center, to perform his new single 'Black Skinhead'.

A press release from the company explains:

"'Ye first rocked the VMA stage in 2004 with a medley of singles that included 'Jesus Walks,' 'All Falls Down' and 'Through the Wire' all from his debut album 'The College Dropout'. At the conclusion of his 2013 VMA showing West will tie Madonna for most Video Music Award performances."

To celebrate the news, MTV shared a photograph via its official Instagram page (shown below). At the end of July, pop icon Lady Gaga was announced as the first performer and she will treat viewers along with event goers to a live rendition of her forthcoming new single, 'Applause'.
