Kasabian's Serge Pizzorno has called on mainstream bands to experiment more with their music.

The guitarist laid down the Beatles' 'Strawberry Fields Forever' as a blueprint for bands who need to look outside the box when writing music.

But Pizzorno insisted that experimentation shouldn't overshadow the song and the melody. He told the Daily Star:

"Bands need that bit extra in the current chart climate. You should be insane - without ruining the great song you should have written. The Beatles' Strawberry Fields Forever has a superb melody, but the recording sounds like pure experimentation. Pushing boundaries is what rock is lacking."
