Katy Perry backs efforts to find Nigerian child abductees

Katy Perry has asked fans to show their support for those trying to find a solution to the Nigerian child abduction crisis.

In mid-April, over 230 girls aged between 12 and 18 were taken from their boarding school in Borno State, Nigeria.

Militant Islamist group Boko Haram claimed responsibility, with 200 men reportedly going to the school during the night to abduct the children.

Fifty-three of the girls escaped shortly after being seized, but hundreds are still missing, prompting international assistance.

Katy Perry has backed the UN's calls for support by tweeting a link to their website along with the text:

"This needs serious attention: Join the global call. DEMAND their unconditional release."

In late 2013 Perry was confirmed as the UN's latest Goodwill Ambassador.
