Katy Perry on pop character narrative: 'Taylor Swift's the sweetheart'

Katy Perry has opened up on how she feels pop stars are given "characters".

The singer told the March issue of Elle that celebrities are generally given personalities to fit an overall narrative.

She said that Taylor Swift is seen as the "sweetheart" whilst Kanye West is the "villain".

Perry said: "You've got to name someone the villain, someone the princess, someone's the mom [and] the dad type - you know there always have to be characters.

"As pop figures, we're all characters. And the media uses that. Who is the sweetheart, who is the villain? You know. Taylor's the sweetheart. Kanye [West]'s the villain. That's the narrative."

Billboard meanwhile have stated that Perry will perform at the Grammy Awards on February 8.
