Katy Perry on fame: 'It's nothing like the dream I imagined when I was nine years old'

Pop megastar Katy Perry has revealed that being famous is nothing like she expected and can understand how celebrities suffer breakdowns as a result of it.

During a new interview with ELLE magazine, the beauty explained the pressures of fame and used Britney Spears' public meltdown of 2007 as an example of how easy it is to fall prey to the stresses of being a celebrity:

"It is a hundred times harder a dream than the dream that I dreamt when I was nine...You think you signed up for one thing, but you automatically sign up for 100 others."

The 'Teenage Dream' hitmaker went onto add that she gets why people sometimes end up acting out, referencing Spears' head-shaving: "And that is why you see people shaving their f**king heads."

Perry, meanwhile, was recently announced as one of the performers for the upcoming GRAMMY Awards and Billboard magazine teased that her live set will be a "highly visual spectacle with dance elements playing a central role".
