Katy Perry: 'I will make sure my children have all of the tools to have a fantastic education'

Katy Perry says education will be of the utmost importance when she starts a family.

The singer told the March issue of Elle magazine that she missed out on a large chunk of childhood learning because of her parents' Christian values.

The US star said: "Unfortunately, I come from an uneducated background. I was taken out of school all the time. Home-schooled.

"Put in schools that didn't have any checks and balances, that were based on making sure that kids were sheltered in a Christian atmosphere - never about education. I didn't go to high school, didn't go to college.

"It's not like I'm a book-smart person, and I know that. How I learn is through my eyes and my ears. But I grew up with a lot of things that I've had to let go, rework, reroute, rechange. I will definitely make sure my children have all of the tools to have a fantastic education. So I will stop that in my generation now."

Perry added, however, that she has a good bond with her evangelical Christian minister father Keith Hudson.

She said: "My dad is really funny. It's probably where I get most of my humour. He's a performer, because he's a speaker. My mind is from my mother, my performance is from my father."
