Katy Perry visits Auschwitz: 'Let this place be a warning to humanity'

Pop sensation Katy Perry is currently on her Prismatic World Tour and took time out from her schedule to visit Auschwitz in Poland.

She shared a photograph of the former concentration camp on her Instagram page (shown left) and confessed that it was devastating to visit the location where such atrocities and crimes against humanity were carried out:

"My heart was heavy today. For ever let this place be a cry of despair and a warning to humanity, where the Nazi murdered about one and a half million men, women and children mainly Jews from various countries of Europe. Auschwitz - Birkenau 1940-1945 "The one that does not remember history is bound to live through it again" - George Santayana."

She will perform later tonight (February 26) at the Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria before moving onto Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Norway, and China.

The 'Teenage Dream' superstar recently told ELLE magazine that she is 'disgusted' by fame and only appreciates it as a by-product of her own success: "I can't wait to create more and evolve more and be a contributor. I would never ever want to be just a celebrity. It's so gross. But if you're contributing, you're adding something to the world; you're changing someone's perspective. I'm disgusted by the fame stuff. I try to keep a distance from it.”
