Katy Perry: 'I was banned from reading 'Harry Potter' growing up'

'Teenage Dream' songstress Katy Perry has revealed that she was banned from reading 'Harry Potter' as a child because of her religious upbringing.

Speaking to People magazine, the beauty confessed that her parents wouldn't let her read the books or watch the movie adaptations so her knowledge of the incredible series is limited:

"I know Harry Potter, but I've never read the books, nor have I seen the movies because growing up, I was not allowed to read the books. Growing up, I wasn't allowed to have any fantastical, enchanting stuff around me. It's funny that now I'm doing a little bit of a magic-potion-themed perfume."

She was then asked what she would do if she was given a magic wand and added: "Well, only use your powers for good... But I think there would be a lot more acceptance, compassion, and empathy if I could (practise magic). Because the world is going through a lot of stuff right now."
