Super Bowl director thought Katy Perry's show would be 'rubbish'

The director of Super Bowl's half-time show has admitted that he was worried some of Katy Perry's concert wouldn't work on TV.

The singer performed at the iconic event earlier this year and it was the most watched half-time show in history with 118.5 million viewers.

Speaking to Billboard, half-time show director Hamish Hamilton admitted he had reservations about Perry's performance - but they were later put to rest.

"There was one part of the Katy Perry show last year, which I was [like] 'This is never gonna work, this is terrible. It’s awful. No! Rubbish! What are you guys thinking about? That just doesn’t work on television!

"Actually it worked really really well. Even before we got to Super Bowl Sunday, I realised that what I’d been saying was completely stupid and completely wrong.

“All the creative [input] is fairly heavily stress-tested before you get there. It just goes to show you can have opinions, but your opinion is not always right."

Hamilton added that he thinks 2016 act Coldplay will "surprise a lot of people".
