Katy Perry on her sense of style: 'I'm running out of tricks'

'Dark Horse' beauty Katy Perry has just unveiled her Katy Kats cosmetics collection with Cover Girl and she has opened up about her love of make-up in a new interview.

Speaking to People Style about her passion for cosmetics, Perry explained that she started experimenting with different looks as a teenager:

“I started out experimenting with makeup really early on. It was very strange, my mother wouldn’t let me wear thongs but, she would let me wear red lipstick. I was like, ‘Nobody can see the thong. They can see the red lipstick!’ I didn’t understand it. But at 13 I was wearing blush, lipstick, and mascara. I do a lot of different thematic looks. It’s playful! I just love to play.”

"All of my personal style did start when I was trying to emulate the pin-up girls. I found this book by Gil Elvgren; he was a pin-up illustrated and his [portraits] were great. And they were always in these sort of compromising positions — accidentally showing some underwear and stuff like that. It’s all a bit tongue-in-cheek. But in the future, that could possibly change. It could go full androgynous. I’ve done the no eyebrows, I’ve done all of it, so I’m running out of tricks. Maybe I should just be normal.”
