Katy Perry surprises Orlando shooting survivor on The Ellen Show

Superstar Katy Perry stopped by The Ellen Show this week and surprised a survivor of the Pulse nightclub massacre, which claimed the lives of 49 people back in June.

Tony Marrero sat down to talk with Ellen DeGeneres about his recovery and explained that Katy Perry's anthem "Rise" has been something that has really inspired and encouraged him. DeGeneres then surprised him by bringing Perry out onto the stage for an incredibly emotional and touching meeting. Marrero told Perry:

"I just want to say thank you for everything you do. Your lyrics to that song helped me from the day I was in the hospital all the way to now. Thank you."

In response, a tearful Perry said: "Life isn't easy and you need little reliefs, through songs possibly. I'm happy to be a joy, I'm happy to be a light, I'm happy I could be there in my own little way to help you."

The "Teenage Dream" sensation also offered to personally pay for Marrero to attend film school, which has been a lifelong dream of his.
