Katy Perry found herself in the middle of hostilities between Israeli and Palestinian fans earlier this week when she tweeted a response to a fan.

The fan asked the 'Teenage Dream' hitmaker to pray for Israel in a tweet to the pop star, she responded, "I am! My prayers are for you guys tonight, Shalom!!!", which then prompted Palestinian fans to berate her.

Perry later took to the social networking website to explain what she had written, saying, "A kid asked me to pray for him and I did."

She then added, "I don't support Any side of violence, in Any place, for Any reason."
