Katy Perry on new perfume 'Killer Queen': 'It highlights the power that’s already inside of you'

'Teenage Dream' sensation Katy Perry has spoken out about her forthcoming new fragrance, 'Killer Queen'.

She dramatically unveiled the perfume back in May with a royal-themed party and has now explained to Women's Wear Daily that getting the scent right was a real labour of love:

"It took us something like 30 or 35 tries to get it right. I wanted some floral [notes], like jasmine, but I also wanted red velvet flower, which is incredible — it gives it the edge that makes it Killer Queen."

"It’s for someone sophisticated, who wants a little edge and can wear it all day, and still wants that sexiness."

Perry added that she wants to perfume to stand alone and not be seen as a celebrity project because she believes the fragrance is good enough to transcend the connotations of her name and do well in the cosmetics industry without the superstar link:

"I just hope to put out a real quality project that competes, and competes beyond the celebrity fragrances. We’re making a product that really stands out on its own, beyond my name.”
