Katy Perry says Lady Gaga chart battle is "healthy"

Katy Perry believes going up against Lady Gaga in the charts is a positive thing.

Both of the superstar acts released their comeback singles on Monday (August 12), with Perry unleashing 'Roar' and Gaga debuting 'Applause'.

It has caused something of a rivalry between the two singers' fans on Twitter, but speaking to AMP Radio, Perry said she supports the message behind 'Applause', stating that she is a Gaga fan.

The 'Part of Me' singer also added that she thinks going head-to-head with the 'ARTPOP' lady is a good thing for the two stars. Perry said:

"It's all about the music and I really agree with her message [on 'Applause']. I've always been a fan of hers and I like to see her evolution."

She continued: "I think that it's also nice that we're all in the same kind of cycle together because it really keeps us both on our toes…It's not that we feel competition, it's that we keep each other on each other's toes and it's a healthy thing."
