Katy Perry has confirmed the identity of her next song release.

The pop songstress will unleash the track 'Dark Horse' on September 17 as she builds on the success of comeback single 'Roar'.

She previously previewed the song alongside fellow newbie 'Walking On Air', asking fans to tweet which track they wanted to see released as the next cut from forthcoming new album 'Prism'.

'Dark Horse' ultimately gained more tweets of support and Perry confirmed its release after her performance at the MTV VMAs last night (August 25), saying:

"YO what a day! #ROAR-ing @ the #VMAs, Tweeting w/POTUS, & now happy to announce U chose #DARKHORSE FT @therealjuicyj to come out Sept 17th!"

The song may not be an official single release, with Perry previously tweeting: "The song chosen will not necessarily be my next single BUT a taste of what my #PRISM has in store for u!"
