Katy Perry's 'Roar' debuts at No.1 on the midweek singles chart update

The new single from pop songstress Katy Perry has shot straight in at No.1 this afternoon (September 4) as the midweek chart update was confirmed.

'Roar' has debuted at the top spot after shifting an impressive 103,000 copies since its release and the Official Charts Company has revealed that if it continues to sell this quickly it is likely to become one of 2013's fastest-selling singles. The video for the track, meanwhile, will be unveiled tomorrow (September 5).

Ellie Goulding's 'Burn' has dropped one place to No.2, Lady Gaga's 'Applause' has climbed to No.6 following her recent performance at London's iTunes Festival, and Beyoncé's 'Listen' has made an appearance at No.14 after 'X Factor' contestant Sam Bailey used it to audition with over the weekend.

Elsewhere in the UK Top 40, Kanye West's 'Gold Digger' has moved up 13 places to sit at No.27, Olly Murs's 'Right Place Right Time' has entered the chart at 39, and Arctic Monkeys have risen 3 spots to No.33.

The final positions are to be confirmed this coming Sunday, September 8.
