Katy Perry roars to the top of US singles chart

Katy Perry has dislodged Robin Thicke from the top of the Billboard Hot 100 to record her eighth US No.1 single.

The singer's new track 'Roar' has been battling Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' for a couple of weeks, but the latter has always reigned supreme.

However, Perry has now usurped the suave singer, stopping his twelve week run at the top of the chart in the process.

The US star's first US No.1 came in the shape of her 2008 smash hit 'I Kissed a Girl', which reigned the charts for seven weeks in a row.

Other Perry tracks to achieve top spot in her native America include 'California Gurls' and 'Firework'.
