Katy Perry responds to PETA criticism over 'Roar' music video

Pop beauty Katy Perry recently came under fire from animal rights organisation PETA for using real animals on the set of her music video for 'Roar'.

The clip features a variety of jungle inhabitants, including a monkey and an elephant, but PETA issued a statement blasting her for the offering because casting animals for music videos can be incredibly traumatising for them.

A spokesperson for PETA, named Merrilee Burke, explained in a statement: "What you may not know -- as most people do not -- is that animals used for entertainment in film and television endure horrific cruelty and suffer from extreme confinement and violent training methods."

Upon hearing about the damaging statement, Perry responded with her own letter from the American Humane Association, who were present at the shoot, in which she confirms that the animals were well looked after and weren't put under any stress:

"American Humane Association was on set for the filming of the above referenced music video, which used an elephant, a monkey, birds and a tiger. After reviewing the reports, we believe that the Guidelines for the Safe Use of Animals in Filmed Media were followed and that no animal was harmed in the making of this music video."
