Katy Perry's 'Prism' debuts at No.1 in the UK

'Roar' superstar Katy Perry has landed at No.1 with her newly released album, 'Prism', in today's (October 23) midweek chart update.

She shot straight in at the top spot and is ahead of her nearest competitor, which is James Blunt with his new offering 'Moon Landing' at No.2, by over 7,000 copies at this midway stage.

Perry's latest single 'Roar' is at No.5 on the midweek singles chart update and she has opened up about the songwriting process behind 'Prism', describing it as a transition into maturity: "I think what 'Prism' is, is an evolution and a maturity. I had to find own self-identity the hard way. But I did. I came out alive and stronger, a little bit stronger."

Last week's No.1, John Newman's 'Tribute', has fallen 2 positions to No.3, Passenger's 'All The Little Lights' has climbed 5 spots to No.4, and 'The Voice UK' winner Andrea Begley has made an appearance at No.10 with her debut record, 'The Message'.
