Katy Perry has praised Miley Cyrus and dismissed any notion of rivalry in the pop scene.

The female music circuit is hotly contested at the moment, with a number of high-profile stars battling it out for fans' attention.

Perry and Lady Gaga recently released albums at the same time and a chart 'fight' soon ensued in the media.

However, the 'Unconditionally' star stressed to the Toronto Sun that there is no rivalry between the acts. She said:

"There's a lot of heavy attention on 'pop diva' right now and competition and none of us like that. But I'm a huge supporter of music. Of course I had pre-ordered [Lady Gaga's] album. I bought Sky Ferreira's album. I bought Miley's. I'm interested."

Perry also had some kind words for Cyrus, who is often criticised for her raunchy antics. She added:

"Miley's really a sweet girl and she has got some big balls. She just doesn't care what anyone thinks."
