Katy Perry becomes UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador

Katy Perry has been named as UNICEF's latest Goodwill Ambassador.

The singer's role was confirmed at an event in New York on Tuesday (December 3).

The 'Roar' star is expected to work with young people in an effort to secure a better future for the those living vulnerable lives.

Commenting about her role, Perry said: "I believe young people have the power to change their own lives, with our help. I am honoured to join UNICEF as a Goodwill Ambassador, and committed to doing everything I can to help children and adolescents who come from such different backgrounds but want the same thing: a brighter future."

UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Luke meanwhile said: "Katy Perry is already a champion for children, and we look forward to hearing her 'roar' on behalf of UNICEF. We are delighted that she is joining us as UNICEF's newest Goodwill Ambassador and lending her remarkable voice to amplify the voices of children and young people around the world."

Perry follows in the footsteps of previous UNICEF ambassadors such as David Beckham and Orlando Bloom.

The singer meanwhile teamed up with the charitable body earlier this year as she visited local children in Madagascar.
