The songstress married Russell Brand in October 2010 before splitting at the end of 2011.

Perry has since enjoyed an on/off romance with John Mayer, but insists she's happy being single at the moment.

Speaking to US Vogue she explained: ''I'm not in a relationship, I'm just on my own - I am myself in my own bed. I have to be happy being alone, and I am happy. I believe that I will be loved again, in the right way. I know I'm worth it.''

Perry hopes to find the right person for her in the future.

She added: ''I hope I don't have to live as a widow, an emotional widow ... No, I don't believe that. But I think that I can just right now focus on me and focus on strengthening myself and my emotional support system.''

Perry also revealed in the interview that she noticed her former husband Russell Brand changing while they were together and revealed: "Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011."

28-year-old beauty Perry and Russell Brand were husband and wife for 14 months before they split at the end of 2011.

The pair - who tied the knot in October 2010 - were inseparable at first, before going their separate ways.

Perry looks on those times fondly, but admits the British comedian changed while they were together.

She explained: "[He was] a magical man. He's a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him. [He was] hysterical [funny] in some ways. Until he started making jokes about me and he didn't know I was in the audience, because I had come to surprise him at one of his shows. So he was hysterical to a point. I mean, I have to claim my own responsibility in things. I do admit that I was on the road a lot. Although I invited him time and time again, and I tried to come home as much as I possibly could. You saw that in the movie.

"Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011."

Perry documented the ups and downs of her life in her documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me, which was released last year.

The film doesn't feature much of Brand, which Perry admits is telling of their relationship as it was fizzling out.  

She explained to US Vogue magazine: "That wasn't edited to leave footage out - there wasn't any footage of him. At first when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they're like, 'I can't handle the equal-ness.' He didn't like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour.

She added: "So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting. I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can't necessarily disclose, because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day. I let go and I was like: 'This isn't because of me; this is beyond me.' So I have moved on from that."

The stunning songstress is the cover star for July's American issue of Vogue magazine and to promote the prestigious honour, Perry has released a short video.

In the promo, Perry - who is famed for her ebony locks - revealed how trying to emulate Madonna's platinum style resulted in her signature look.

She explained: ''I've been dying my hair black since I was 15. The whole reason I dye it is that I was 15 and I chopped it all off. I had it bleached blonde like Madonna and it didn't look right so I bought a box of hair dye and dyed it all black and never looked back.''

Perry also admitted there are certain features on her face she plays up in order to feel more attractive.

She said: " My brows and my eyes, I think, are what frame my whole face. I have all right lips and all right cheekbones, but they're no showoffs. If I get my brows and my eyes right, that really sets the whole face.

Perry added: ''My skin used to be a lot worse than it is so I would use a lot more coverage as I was insecure about my skin.''

Writing on her official Twitter page this afternoon, the 'Teenage Dream' superstar shared a snippet of the stunning photograph selected from the shoot via her Instagram page (shown below) and accompanied it with the caption: "I see you @voguemagazine July cover!"

Perry then shared the link to the full image, which can also be seen below, and she posed for famed photographer Annie Leibovitz in a gorgeous floral dress that is complimented with a natural dark hairstyle and bold red lips.

The tagline that goes with her cover shot reads: "Katy Perry: Her life, her loves, and a fresh, romantic look." July's edition of Vogue U.S. is set to hit newsstands on June 18. 

Dressed in a purple latex bodysuit, the US superstar is first seen rapping whilst driving a van before she joins the rest of her feline agents to plot the demise of Fat Cat, the villainous owner of a fatty snack empire.

After tracking him down in an abandoned warehouse, Katy & The Popcats then manage to foil their arch-nemesis’ dastardly plan before the short film concludes with an explosive finale.

The 28-year-old became the face of the low-calorie snack company last year and recently launched her own personal Popchips flavour, Katy’s Kettle Korn. 

The 'Teenage Dream' beauty told German website Blick.ch: "I cry all the time."

She then went on to joke: "I had my tear glands removed because it kept ruining my make-up, and applying my make-up takes seven hours."

Perry then admitted: "Of course I cry. Crying is good for me."

Talking about her feelings more generally Katy Perry concluded: "I'm a very emotional person. Sometimes I'm far more emotional than I'm supposed to be. On the other hand, that's what has made me the artist that I am today."

Katy Perry's ex-husband Russell Brand has recently spoken about her in an interview with Esquire magazine. Brand described his former wife as "a lovely, beautiful person."

Katy Perry and Russell Brand got married in October 2010 in a Hindu ceremony that took place in India. By December 2011 Brand filed for divorce and cited irreconcilable differences as the cause. The couple's request for divorce was granted in February 2012 and became effective the following July.

Perry began by saying: "Be proud of who you are. Recently, I've been getting a lot of comments and tweets from fans who are struggling with self harm or being a victim of bullying. Which brings tears to my eyes. I want you to be strong. There's only one you in this world, embrace it."

The ‘Teenage Dream’ songstress reassured fans that their situation will improve in the future: "Trust me, when you grow up and become successful those bullies will WISH they were friends with you and were nice to you. Karma will do payback to them, just watch."

She also gives some practical advice of how to deal with bullies: "When they bully again, just laugh at their faces or simply say I don't care. If they see it bothers you, they'll continue. If they see that you don't care and that it doesn't bother you, they'll stop! Simple! Stand up for yourself. Make those bullies look stupid. If it gets bad, you can simply tell the authority at school."

The American pop star also addressed the topic of self harm by saying: "It's horrible to me. Don't ruin your skin, I think your skin is beautiful. Putting scars on your wrists or anywhere else is just heartbreaking for me. Cutting yourself doesn't fix anything. Please, just stop. For me, for your family, for your friends, for you."

As previously reported, the pop songstress recently criticised Keef's track 'Hate Bein' Sober' on Twitter.

This prompted the rapper to violently reply to Perry, saying: "Dat b*tch Katy Perry Can Suck Skin Off Of my D*ck. Ill Smack The Sh*t out her."

Naturally, the 'Teenage Dream' star seemed a little taken aback by the comments, prompting the singer to mediate the tension with some conciliatory words. Perry said:

"Mr. Keef! I'm sorry if I offended you. I heard a lot of people guesting on the song & didn't even know it was you in particular. Actually, I'm a fan of your "Don't Like" video tbh. I was really just having a general opinion on our generations desire to be constantly intoxicated."

She concluded: "Believe me, I'm a lover not a hater. x."

Seemingly putting an end to the matter, Keef then retweeted Perry's messages.

The song was released in December last year as part of the US rapper's debut album 'Finally Rich'.

It features cameos from 50 Cent and Wiz Khalifa and includes lyrics such as:

"All the hoes they love smoking, and love drinking/Anti-sober, for no reason/Cause we can't spell sober/Ya know us, we smoke strong bruh/Watch me roll up/Cause I can’t spell sober."

It seems to have rankled pop songstress Katy Perry, who tweeted:

"Just heard a new song on the radio called 'I Hate Being Sober' I now have serious doubt for the world."

One witty Twitter user, however, replied to the singer: "I heard 'California Gurls' and thought the same thing."

The 'Teenage Dream' star and the British comic were married from 2010 until 2012, when their divorce was finalised.

The Sun, however, quotes the singer as saying that her mother, who is known for her religious beliefs, was pleased that they got divorced. She said:

"I thank God every day for having made us all the same way and I pray for anyone who fights for freedom of speech."

Perry is then said to have added: "I'm pro-gay marriage and want equality between genders. My mom thanks God every day for my divorce."

The US star meanwhile recently performed live with The Rolling Stones in Las Vegas, with the singer afterwards revealing her joy at "gyrating" with Mick Jagger.

The stunning songstress joined the legendary band during a show for their '50 & Counting' anniversary tour at Las Vegas venue MGM Grand.

Perry was the group's special guest at the gig, and joined them on stage to perform a rendition of 'Beast of Burden'.

Perry took to Twitter after her stage appearance to gush about the guest slot, writing: " Yes, I just did gyrated on Mick Jagger. WHAT?! #Stones50 (sic)."

When a fan criticised her "appalling grammar" in the sentence, Perry fired back with a funny apology.

She added: "I noticed that. I guess I was too excited.  Sorry mom (sic)."

Perry follows in the footsteps of a range of stars who have joined Jagger and co. for their stage comeback, including No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani and country star Keith Urban.

The packaging for the scent, which will be the 'Teenage Dream' superstar's third, is reminiscent of the top part of a royal sceptre with a long gold-coloured stem and ruby red gem set into it and she has now also revealed the name of the fragrance.

Writing on the social networking site, Perry told her fans: "Just had an elegant unveiling of my new fragrance 🌹KILLER QUEEN🌹 at the Duke! Can't wait to share the royal juice! #sosophisticated."

She also shared a snapshot of a manicure she had done especially for the unveiling to match the bottle's stunning design and wore a stunning rose-embellished gown to the unveiling party in New York at the James B. Duke Mansion.

Back in 2011, the hitmaker opened up about her love for the glam rock band Queen and paid tribute to the late Freddie Mercury on what would have been his birthday, telling the camera that their song 'Killer Queen' secured her love for music so the perfume's name seems particularly fitting:

"You're not really gone. You've inspired us all and you've inspired me especially. Without you, I wouldn't be making music or doing what I do because your lyrics inspired me as a fifteen-year-old girl. I heard 'Killer Queen' and wanted to be a killer Queen."

She posted a message to the social networking site a few minutes ago that explains she will be bringing out a new perfume and also accompanied the tweet with a photograph of the stunning bottle that appears to be inspired by royalty and opulence (shown below):

"OK! I have been working on my 3rd fragrance for over a year & want to unveil the look NOW! What do u think?!"

Her first two perfumes were cat themed and called 'Purr' and 'Meow', although Perry is yet to reveal any further information on the title her third scent will boast. Back in 2012, she confirmed that she had partnered with beauty product manufacturer Coty Inc for the new addition to her growing fragrance line.

Fans have reacted well to the announcement, however, with one calling the bottle design "perfect" and another asking, "'Purr' was the best, but will this top it?"

Perry has been working in the studio on her forthcoming new album and recently explained that she has teamed up with the likes of Bonnie McKee, Dr. Luke, Max Martin and Greg Kurstin for the offering:

"It's like the dream team. They push me the most, and also argue the most. It's an emotional abuse session. I'm a student of life. Words are like little treasures. I put all of my ideas in a folder, whether I read them in newspaper or through a conversation with friends. I've got years of titles and things I want to write about."

The singer teamed up with producer Glen Ballard aged just 17 and the 'Teenage Dream' star told OK! magazine that she thought she would be set from then on in.

Record deals fell through, however, meaning that it was only until the late 2000s that she finally made an impact on the mainstream music scene. Perry said:

"At the beginning I was working with Glen and everything was cool. I had black Jetta, my first car, and I thought I was the s**t. I remember my cousin said, 'You should be grateful for this because it could all go flying out the window at any moment'. And I was like, 'Not for me. I'm the chosen one'. Then the rug got pulled from underneath me."

Reflecting on her worst times, the 'Wide Awake' star added: "I had no money, no car, I couldn't pay the rent. I had this really skewed perspective of what it meant to make it. I needed that to appreciate what I have now. I just keep that in mind when things go bad. There's always a way for things to get better."
