Kelly Clarkson on giving back: 'I do it because I came from nothing and now my life couldn't be better'

Superstar Kelly Clarkson has revealed why she loves to do as much charity work as possible.

During an interview with People magazine, the songstress explained that her desire to give back came from the fact that she has so many blessings and she knows what it's like to come from nothing:

"I'm considerably blessed in my life. I came from nothing, and my life took a whirlwind change overnight. My life couldn't be any better. But you just pause and go, 'Why wouldn't you want to give back? Why wouldn't you want to help out when you have so much spotlight to share?'"

She went onto talk about the work she does with Musicians On Call, which is a nonprofit organisation whose volunteers bring music to hospital patients, the 'Heartbeat Song' star admitted that she wanted to get involved because music 'saved her' and she wanted to show others that it has such a strong ability to heal:

"When my friend said that he works with this group called Musicians on Call I had to go find out what it was about. So I met them, and I now go [as part of MOC to visit patients] at Christmas time. I love it because the music is just such a nostalgic thing. We do a mini Christmas show for them, and then my guitarist and I go around to each room singing to the kids who can't come see the performance."

"Music has such an influence on our emotions, and it aids in recovery. It's powerful. It's kind of a healthy little elixir for everyone. And I can relate to it; I was very much an outsider as a kid, and music kind of saved me."
