Kelly Clarkson praises Ed Sheeran: 'He's the Meryl Streep of the music world'

Country-pop sensation Kelly Clarkson has praised Ed Sheeran and described him as the Meryl Streep of the music industry because he can conquer anything he sets his mind to.

During a new interview with ODE, the ‘Heartbeat Song’ hitmaker explained that she has a lot of admiration for Sheeran and is impressed by his chameleon-like talent

“I love Ed Sheeran. The thing I love about Ed Sheeran is that I love how he incorporates different influences. You know his first song, ‘The A Team’… from the first song he’s such a singer songwriter and I was like I bet his album is going to be all those songs. He’s got these amazing layers of this urban influence – he basically raps – and then he breaks into the most beautiful ballad ever while learning to dance in a video. And he’s only 24, which makes us all feel lame."

She went onto add that he inspires her to be bold and try new things: "It’s inspiring – he’s just so talented. I love artists like that… it’s true artistry. He’s the Meryl Streep of artists… you can give him any role or song and he becomes this different character for it. That’s something to recognise and to hold up in the light, and it inspires us to be better artists.”

Sheeran, meanwhile, won the Best British Male prize tonight (February 25) at the BRIT Awards and beat the likes of Sam Smith, Paolo Nutini, Damon Albarn and George Ezra to the title
