Hitmaker Kelly Clarkson returned to the 'American Idol' stage last week and performed an emotional rendition of her song, 'Piece By Piece'. 

The superstar found fame after winning the show back in 2002, but made an appearance last week during the final season and found it really hard to hold back the tears. 

During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, which will air in the USA today, the songstress admitted that she felt as though she was struggling to hold back the emotion the entire time: "I came off almost in tears for a different reason because I was so embarrassed. I was like 'Oh God this is my final thing on Idol and I could not hold it together'. I was almost losing it almost the entire song."

"I was proud of myself for making it as far as I did. My husband knows me well. I came off stage and he was like don't ruin it. Don't ruin the moment. Because I was like 'it was so embarrassing'."
