Kelly Clarkson's 'Stronger' named best-selling single by an American Idol

'Stronger' by Kelly Clarkson has been named the best-selling single to have come from an American Idol star ever.

The songstress made American Idol history yesterday (July 4) as her anthemic track was named by Nielsen SoundScan as the talent show's highest-selling, beating previous champion Carrie Underwood's number with her hit 'Before He Cheats'.

It has shifted a phenomenal 3,510,000 copies since its release, passing Underwood's record of 3,509,000, and also marks Clarkson's longest-running Billboard Hot 100 No.1 single to date.

She took to social networking site Twitter on Independence Day to share a photograph (below) and told her 1.7 million followers that she enjoyed celebrating the holiday in Texas:

"I had a lot of fun tonight in Fort Hood, Texas celebrating the 4th of July! Thanks for inviting us! Thank you so much to the military for all you do and the sacrifices you make every day!"
