Kesha appeals Dr. Luke ruling as lawyer likens contract to 'slavery'

Kesha has launched an appeal against a court ruling which stated she could not be freed from a contract with producer Dr. Luke.

The US star recently failed in a bid to be removed from an agreement with the music-maker, who she claims drugged and raped her.

The Hollywood Reporter say Kesha filed papers on Monday (March 21) to appeal the ruling, which was delivered in February.

Kesha's attorney Mark Geragos wrote in the papers that his client's contract with Dr. Luke - real name Lukasz Gottwald - is akin to "slavery".

He said: "Although it recognised that 'slavery was done away with a long time ago' and that '[y]ou can't force someone to work...in a situation in which they don't want to work,' the Court's ruling requiring Kesha to work for Gottwald's companies, purportedly without his involvement, does just that."

Kesha has received an outpouring of support from the music community, with Taylor Swift giving her $250,000 (£175,000) to assist her legal campaign.

Dr. Luke denies all the allegations placed against him.
