Judge rules against Kesha: 'Rape is not a gender-motivated hate crime'

Judge Shirely Kornreich has ruled against Kesha in a New York Supreme Court today. Kornreich rejected her claim that she has become a slave to Sony with Dr. Luke as the master.

Kesha attempted to get an emergency order giving her the right to get out of her Sony contract on the grounds that Dr. Luke allegedly raped her and that she was being tormented by Sony who would not let her go.

Sony moved to get the case thrown out of court and today (April 6) the judge agreed with the label as Sony is no longer forcing her to work with Dr. Luke but will allow her to work with other producers.

In summing up, the judge said:

"Although [Dr.Luke's] alleged actions were directed to Kesha, who is female, [her claims] do not allege that [Dr. Luke] harboured animus toward women or was motivated by gender animus when he allegedly behaved violently toward Kesha.

TMZ reports that the judge said:

"Even rape is not a gender-motivated hate crime."

Kornreich also rules that such a claim can't be predicated on abusive remarks and threats made over a ten-year period, that there needs to be physical violence or property damage.

Earlier this week, Kesha uploaded a photo onto Instagram with the caption: "I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster."
