Kings of Leon ride to the top of UK album chart with 'Mechanical Bull'

Kings of Leon have achieved their fourth consecutive No. 1 album in the UK with their latest LP ‘Mechanical Bull’.

‘Mechanical Bull’ is the sixth album from the Followill brothers, Caleb, Jared and Nathan, and their cousin, Matthew.

Their last three albums – ‘Come Around Sundown’, ‘Only By The Night’ and ‘Because Of The Times’ – all previously debuted at top of the UK album chart too. The band's first two LP’s – ‘Youth and Young Manhood’ and ‘Aha Shake Heartbreak’ – charted at a respectable No. 3 in 2003 and 2004 respectively.

‘Mechanical Bull’, which keeps up the Tennessee foursome’s preference for album titles with five syllables, has sold in excess of 71,000 in the past seven days.

Just behind them in the chart is a new entry from Drake with his third album ‘Nothing Was The Same’. Having sold 61,000 copies this week, ‘Nothing Was The Same’ is the fastest selling hip hop album of the year so far.

Another two chart entries riding high this week come from Jessie J with ‘Alive’ at No. 3 and Jason Derulo’s ‘Tattoos’ at No. 5.

After two weeks at the top spot, Arctic Monkeys’ ‘AM’ has now slipped to No. 4.

Further new entries to this week’s chart include Birdy at No. 8 with ‘Fire Within’, Chvrches’ at No. 9 with ‘The Bones Of What You Believe’, Sting’s latest album in over a decade, ‘The Last Ship’ at No. 14 and Mazzy Star’s long-awaited ‘Seasons Of Your Day’ at No. 24.
