Kylie Minogue: 'I bought a lavish house in LA and only slept there twice'

Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue has admitted that years ago she bought an expensive "grown up's playground" style house in California, but only stayed there a couple of times.

The 'All The Lovers' superstar told BBC Radio 2 that she went through a period of uncertainty regarding her career in 1999, and in order to cope with it she moved to the USA and purchased a property in Los Angeles although her time there was short-lived because things soon picked up again for her musically:

"It was so quiet for me that I thought, 'Maybe that's it?' So I bought a house in Los Angeles, because it was this weird middle ground - it wasn't Australia, It wasn't England, and it was fun, like a grown up's playground."

"So I bought this house and I must have stayed there twice and then I signed with Parlophone. Then, well ... Boom Parlophone and 'Spinning Around', let's just say I sold the house!"

Minogue added that while 'Spinning Around' helped get her back into the spotlight it was really the success of 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' that propelled her to international stardom:

"'Spinning Around' was a golden moment. It was the Millennium, it was back in the most shiny, exuberant way. Then with 'Can't Get You Out of My Head' on the next album, the sound, the video, this time it wasn't golden, it was ice cool, sharp and futuristic, and it took it to a new place, and with the reach of that song to another level."
