Kylie Minogue has spoken out in praise of Sydney's "electric" New Year's extravaganza.

The Aussie singer was appointed creative ambassador for the project earlier this year and she oversaw its development.

She had previously expressed her excitment at the role in the build up to the event - and it seems it didn't disappoint.

There were fireworks aplenty and in a statement, the singer said that she will "never forget" the end to 2012. Minogue said:

"The atmosphere was electric and it was a night I will never forget. Sydney has the reputation as the New Years Eve capital of the world and it certainly lived up to that promise last night."

She added: "My New Year resolution is to spend more time with my family and loved ones, and more time in Australia."
