Labrinth wants music to 'stretch barriers'

Singer & producer Labrinth has admitted that he would like his music to ‘stretch barriers.’

Speaking about the forthcoming release of his debut solo album, Electronic Earth, the 22-year-old told the Metro newspaper that he wanted his own material to be as adventurous as his work with the likes of Tinie Tempah:

“I get a kick out of putting a spin on what other artists can do – it’s like making everyone a bespoke suit. For my own album, I wanted to create something that was equally urban, pop and weird.”

The first non-talent show signing to Simon Cowell’s Syco label in six years also predicts that his sound is likely to evolve with each album:

"I think that mix will get more extreme as I go along, it's like slowly peeling this onion and revealing more layers.

"My fans aren't going to get the same record every time and I think that's healthy. I don't want to stay ‘relevant,’ I just want to stretch the barriers a bit."

Labrinth was joined on stage by Ed Sheeran at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire last night where the pair performed Top Five hits ‘Earthquake’ and ‘Let The Sun Shine’ at a pre-Brit Awards fundraising event for the War Child charity.
