	  <description><![CDATA[<p>Multi-platinum and Grammy Award-winning artist <a href="/pg/newsdesk/ladygaga" target="_blank">Lady Gaga </a>announced today the worldwide release of her first fragrance, LADY GAGA FAME, in&nbsp;September 2012. Gaga's first fragrance, released through the Artist's own Haus Laboratories in association with Coty, is the latest breakthrough expression of her creativity.</p>
<p>Bound to surpass all norms and standards in the fragrance industry with its innovative technology, LADY GAGA FAME is the first ever black<b>&nbsp;</b>Eau de Parfum that sprays clear and becomes invisible once airborne. The black-to-clear fragrance is a fantastic innovation of patent pending fluid technology, exclusively launched with LADY GAGA FAME. Gaga collaborated with fashion industry legends in the creation of LADY GAGA FAME: the bottle was designed<b>&nbsp;</b>in collaboration with&nbsp;Nick Knight, and the ad campaign was directed and photographed by&nbsp;Steven Klein.</p>
<p>The innovations in LADY GAGA FAME go beyond the black-to-clear fluid : the olfactory structure itself is also very rare for the fragrance industry. Traditionally, perfumes have a pyramidal structure -- a hierarchy of sorts with top, middle and base notes. This fragrance, on the other hand, has a unique structure called the "push-pull technology," where the ingredients interact together to highlight different olfactive aspects of each note at the same time, without any hierarchy. All of the notes were crafted to work together harmoniously thanks to the complimentary properties of each ingredient, which allow for a true metamorphosis of the scent when worn on skin.</p>
<p>The scent is built around three main accords: dark, sensual and light. The dark accord was inspired by Belladonna, the deadly nightshade possessed by haunted beauties since the 18th century. From this darkness, the fragrance evolves to a sensual accord of opulence, a fusion of dripping honey, saffron and apricot nectar. And lastly, the light accord whispers magnificence. The rich floral layer of crushed Tiger Orchid &amp; Jasmine Sambac embodies timeless beauty. The accords work together to create a fragrance of floral and fruity elements, with the star ingredient inspired by Belladonna leveling out the whole fragrance and giving LADY GAGA FAME its signature as a scent.</p>

	  <title><![CDATA[Lady Gaga Testifies at Harvard on Behalf of Born This Way Foundation]]></title>

<p>Yesterday at&nbsp;Harvard University, <a href="/pg/newsdesk/ladygaga" target="_blank">Lady Gaga</a> and her mother,&nbsp;Cynthia Germanotta, officially unveiled Born This Way Foundation (BTWF), a new non-profit charitable organization, before a crowd of policy makers, non-profit organizations, foundation leaders, students and youth at the&nbsp;Harvard Graduate School of Education's Askwith Forum.</p>
<p>The day opened with Oprah interviewing Lady Gaga about her commitment to empowering youth before a packed audience at Sanders Theatre. Lady Gaga then took the stand in a mock trial to testify before a panel of expert "judges" about what she hopes to accomplish with BTWF. Panelists included&nbsp;Deepak Chopra, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services,&nbsp;Kathleen Sebelius, sister of&nbsp;Jamey Rodemeyer Alyssa Rodemeyer, Harvard Law Professor&nbsp;Charles Ogletree, Psychologist Susan M. Swearer and E! News correspondent and LGBT parent and spouse&nbsp;David Burtka.</p>
<p>"The culture of love is not going to change overnight but youth are the answer to creating a braver, kinder world," said Lady Gaga. "This might be one of the best days of my life."</p>
<p>BTWF will address issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development through research, education and advocacy. BTWF will create an environment that allows youth to safely express their individuality and one that provides them with the skills needed to encourage self-expression and promote civic engagement, and the resources and opportunities needed to implement solutions whether it be "online, on-the-road, or down the street." With a focus on digital mobilization to create positive change, BTWF will lead youth into a braver new society where each individual is accepted and loved as the person they were born to be.</p>
<p>The Born This Way Foundation also announced today that Lady Gaga has made a&nbsp;$1.2 million&nbsp;personal contribution to BTWF, dedicating&nbsp;$200,000&nbsp;to cover the foundation's overhead costs. Barneys New York has raised more than&nbsp;$750,000&nbsp;for the foundation through product sales from Gaga's 2011 Holiday Workshop, and has donated an additional$100,000. The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation is also committing&nbsp;$1 million&nbsp;in support, with&nbsp;$500,000&nbsp;going to the Berkman Center for Internet &amp; Society atHarvard&nbsp;to lead research efforts, and the remaining&nbsp;$500,000&nbsp;directly allocated to BTWF to support online and on-the-road efforts to engage young people in civic life and deter bullying.</p>
<p>"Like everything my daughter has done, this is a grassroots initiative asking for the response of the community to help build this movement and shape it," said&nbsp;Cynthia Germanotta. "Therefore a safe and trusted online community will allow users to share stories about themselves and their lives. Supporters can draw courage from the words of others as they explore Born This Way Foundation's online community."</p>
<p>The John D. &amp; Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, The California Endowment andHarvard's Berkman Center for Internet &amp; Society are partnering with BTWF to explore the best ways to reach youth and create a new culture of kindness, bravery, acceptance and empowerment.</p>
<p>"MacArthur's partnership with the Born This Way Foundation will apply what we have learned about the power and potential of digital media to reach and engage millions of young people," said&nbsp;Connie Yowell, MacArthur's Director of Education. "In classrooms and communities, online and even on-the-road, this effort will enable teachers, parents, students, and communities each do their part to promote positive civic and online participation."</p>
<p>To engage youth on-the-road, the Born Brave Bus, with design assistance provided by the innovative youth from YOUmedia's teen library space, will travel the country to serve as a place where kids can go to feel connected and learn about civic engagement opportunities. The bus, along with onsite mentors, will also accompany Lady Gaga's next North American concert tour, providing additional resources and a safe space to convene.</p>

<p>In honor of this special project, Barneys New York is proud to donate 25% of sales from all items featured in GAGA'S WORKSHOP to the Born This Way Foundation, recently founded and announced by Lady Gaga and her mother. The Born This Way Foundation will focus on youth empowerment and equality by addressing issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development and will utilize digital mobilization as one of the means to create positive change.</p>
<p><b>About GAGA'S WORKSHOP</b></p>
<p>A take on Santa's iconic workshop, the project has been realized through the eyes of renowned creative talents: Lady Gaga, Nicola Formichetti, and&nbsp;Eli Sudbrack&nbsp;and avaf, in collaboration with Barneys' creative director&nbsp;Dennis Freedman. In true Lady Gaga fashion, GAGA'S WORKSHOP is not a traditional holiday destination, but rather a unique and individual celebration of the universality of gift giving and charity during the holiday season.</p>
<p>A multi-faceted celebration, GAGA'S WORKSHOP includes: a fantastically transformed retail environment, holiday windows, a dedicated Gaga interactive website, and limited-edition, exclusive products created in collaboration with Lady Gaga under the creative direction of Nicola Formichetti with artists&nbsp;Eli Sudbrack&nbsp;and&nbsp;Christophe Hamaide Pierson&nbsp;of assume vivid astro focus (avaf).</p>
<p>From elaborate art installations, vivid colors and bold patterns designed by avaf, to exclusive one-of-a-kind products created specially for the Workshop by Barneys New York, GAGA'S WORKSHOP will be a holiday treat for shoppers of all ages.</p>
<p>Taking over the entire, 5500-square foot, fifth floor of the Madison Avenue Men's store, The Workshop is divided into elaborate structural shops, such as a jewelry shop created out of an oversized Lady Gaga-turned-spider and a boudoir in the shape of a giant wig. Working with the Barneys New York team,&nbsp;Eli Sudbrack&nbsp;and avaf have designed giant sculpture installations as well as signature artwork for GAGA'S WORKSHOP which is featured on special holiday shopping bags and packaging.</p>
<p>There are eight stations in GAGA'S WORKSHOP, reflecting the product categories available for sale, as well as a number of iconic references to Lady Gaga herself. Stations include: Candy Shop, Toy Shop, Closet (for apparel and accessories), Library (for books, CDs, media, and paper goods), Gallery (for collectibles and specialty items), Jewelry, Boudoir (for candles and cosmetics), and Holiday.</p>
<p>In addition to conceptualizing a Gaga holiday destination within Barneys New York,&nbsp;Eli Sudbrack&nbsp;and avaf have also designed a giant facade that has taken over the 60th Street entrance to the store. Designed to create the illusion of walking into the mouth of a giant monster-like Lady Gaga, this entrance is the gateway to GAGA'S WORKSHOP.</p>

<p><b>About The Madison Avenue Windows</b><br />The Barneys New York historical Madison Avenue windows have been transformed into a series of Gaga-themed tableaux as part of the GAGA'S WORKSHOP experience this holiday season. Lady Gaga's vision for the Madison windows was to create individual, magical holiday environments inspired by music, art and fashion. Directed by Nicola Formichetti in collaboration with Barneys' Creative Director,&nbsp;Dennis Freedman, the windows have been divided into four themes: 'Gaga Constellation,' 'Gaga Machine,' 'Gaga's Boudoir,' and 'Gaga's&nbsp;Crystal Cave' each with their own unique iconic reference to Lady Gaga.</p>
<p>"For my first ever window designs, it's an honor to be collaborating with the prestigious Barneys' brand and its creative history," said Nicola Formichetti.</p>
<p>'Gaga's Boudoir'<br />Working with renowned hairstylist and Gaga collaborator,&nbsp;Bob Recine, the window is a surrealist take on Lady Gaga's own personal boudoir. Constructed entirely out of hair, the room is filled with iconic references of hair styles and fashions from past Gaga moments.</p>
<p>'Gaga's&nbsp;Crystal Cave'<br />Turning the space into a mysterious ice world, the window is made up of light installations and a mermaid sculpture reminiscent of Gaga.</p>
<p>'Gaga Machine'<br />The theme of this window plays with the idea of Lady Gaga physically morphing into a machine. In this case the machine being a motorcycle in the shape of Lady Gaga's body.</p>
<p>'Gaga Constellation'&nbsp;<br />Working with Q4, a NYC-based experiential digital agency, the window will feature a new collaborative film by director&nbsp;Tim Richardson&nbsp;and creative director, Nicola Formichetti. The interactive short film is sponsored by a White Label Product with post production by The Mill, screen technology by Prysm, and interactive experience design by Moving Image &amp; Content and The Science Project.</p>
<p><b>About Q4</b><br />Realizing the importance of the collaborative artistic process, Q4 focuses on fashion content in a variety of gaming and mobile device platforms with an emphasis on retail. <p>A take on Santa's iconic workshop, the project has been realized through the eyes of renowned creative talents: Lady Gaga, Nicola Formichetti, and&nbsp;Eli Sudbrack&nbsp;and avaf, in collaboration with Barneys' creative director&nbsp;Dennis Freedman. In true Lady Gaga fashion, GAGA'S WORKSHOP is not a traditional holiday destination, but rather a unique and individual celebration of the universality of gift giving and charity during the holiday season.</p>
<p>From elaborate art installations, vivid colors and bold patterns designed by avaf, to exclusive one-of-a-kind products created specially for the Workshop by Barneys New York, GAGA'S WORKSHOP will be a holiday treat for shoppers of all ages.</p>
<p>Taking over the entire, 5500-square foot, fifth floor of the Madison Avenue Men's store, The Workshop will be divided into elaborate structural shops, such as a jewelry shop created out of an oversized Lady Gaga-turned-spider and a boudoir in the shape of a giant wig. Working with the Barneys New York team,&nbsp;Eli Sudbrack&nbsp;and avaf have designed giant sculpture installations as well as signature artwork for GAGA'S WORKSHOP which will be featured on special holiday shopping bags and packaging.</p>
<p>There are eight stations in GAGA'S WORKSHOP, reflecting the product categories available for sale, as well as a number of iconic references to Lady Gaga herself. Stations include: Candy Shop, Toy Shop, Closet (for apparel and accessories), Library (for books, CDs, media, and paper goods), Gallery (for collectibles and specialty items), Jewelry, Boudoir (for candles and cosmetics), and Holiday.</p>
<p>In addition to conceptualizing a Gaga holiday destination within Barneys New York,&nbsp;Eli Sudbrack&nbsp;and avaf have also designed a giant facade that will take over the 60th Street entrance to the store. Designed to create the illusion of walking into the mouth of a giant monster-like Lady Gaga, this entrance will be the gateway to GAGA'S WORKSHOP.</p>
<p>The Madison Avenue windows, which will be unveiled at the opening of the Workshop, have been transformed into a Gaga themed tableaux; drawing holiday inspiration from music, fashion, astrology and the elements. "For my first ever window designs, it's an honor to be collaborating with the prestigious Barneys' brand and creative history," said Nicola Formichetti.</p>
