Lady Gaga believes she has been putting on the pounds recently.

The US beauty spoke to Jimmy Kimmel at the SXSW festival this week, but she turned heads by wearing a plump outfit.

However, the singer told the chat show host that she opted for a figure-hiding dress so that she could cover up her body.

Speaking at the Texas event, Gaga said: "That's actually why I wore it because I am really fat right now because I have been eating BBQ. I had some at Stubb's because I am playing there and some Salt Lick too. Or any meat that I find on the street, I just eat."

Gaga meanwhile performed on Thursday (March 13) at the Austin festival and opened the show by being carted out on a spit.

The singer is also due to deliver the SXSW keynote speech today (March 14).
