Lady Gaga at SXSW: 'I'm sorry I didn't sell 1 million records in the first week'

Pop superstar Lady Gaga has given her South By South West keynote speech in Austin, Texas and opened up about the poor sales of her latest album, 'ARTPOP'.

Speaking about the release of the record, the songstress explained that there's so much pressure in the industry to produce insane figures that the emphasis on the artistic or creative side of things is completely lost:

"I’m sorry I didn’t sell a million records the first week. I have before. I’ve sold 27 million albums. I’m very proud of what we did. I’ve sold as much as everybody else sells."

"I’m held to such an insane standard; it’s almost like everybody forgets where the music business is now."

She continued, explaining the premise of the album: "What it’s about is freeing yourself from the expectations of the music industry and the expectations of the status quo. I never liked having my skirt measured for me at school or told how to do things or the rules to play by. And as you become more successful they start to push the rule book closer and closer to you. 'Now you’re here, so how are you going to maintain it?'”

Earlier tonight (March 14), she took to her official Twitter page and told her followers that on March 22 she will be releasing a brand new video: "NEW LADY GAGA VIDEO next Saturday 3.22"
