Lady Gaga says 'ARTPOP' was like creating a 'synthetic musical drug'

Lady Gaga believes the creation of her last album was akin to making a musical form of acid.

The singer released 'ARTPOP' in 2013 as the follow-up to 2011's 'Born This Way'.

Speaking to Yahoo Style, the US star said that the record ended up being a way for her to "survive" her own life.

Gaga said: "With that album it's like I was creating my own acid. Acid is a synthetically-created drug, in laboratories, and I created a synthetic musical drug for myself to survive my life.

"But then as I travelled around the world I met more and more kids that were fully f***ing 'ARTPOP' to the wildest galaxies of their dreams. Kids whose whole lives were changed by the album.

"You know, Planet Venus is a place that they go in their minds when they are at home, to escape their family life, their troubles, their depression."
