Lady Gaga: 'I suffer from depression and anxiety every day'

Lady Gaga says she is still affected by a life-long struggle with depression.

The singer opened up to Billboard in a new interview about why she started the Born This Way Foundation, which supports youth and mental health issues.

The US star revealed that lowness and anxiety has plagued her for decades.

Gaga said: "I’ve suffered through depression and anxiety my entire life, I still suffer with it every single day.

"I just want these kids to know that that depth that they feel as human beings is normal. We were born that way. This modern thing, where everyone is feeling shallow and less connected? That's not human."

She added: "These kids just want to feel human, but they feel like robots. They don’t understand why they’re so sad. There are scientific reasons, which the foundation researches, why you feel sad when you look at your phone all day."

Gaga created the foundation alongside her mother Cynthia Germanotta in 2011.

One of its projects allowed young fans to access the Born Brave Bus, which offered support and guidance.
