Diane Warren backs Lady Gaga in Oscar nomination debate

Diane Warren has shown support for Lady Gaga in light of questions over her Oscar nomination.

The singer's track 'Til It Happens To You' is in contention for the Best Original Song prize at February's ceremony.

However, songwriter Linda Perry took to Twitter to question why Gaga is getting the credit when Diane Warren apparently did the majority of the work.

Speaking on Twitter, Warren said that the tune - which places Gaga as co-writer and co-producer - was a collaboration.

She wrote: "The song is the result of a special collaboration between myself and Lady Gaga.

"As Lady Gaga and I have consistly said To you was inspired by the countless survivors of abuse who need our support and love so they know they're not alone [sic]."

Speaking previously about the creation of the song, Warren said: "[Gaga] made it hers and took it to another level by arranging the sh*t out of it and singing the sh*t out of it."

Perry has since apologised on Twitter for her remarks, writing: "My sincere apologies. I made a mistake to comment. I wasn't in the room when the #TIHTY was being written.

"More importantly, I wish the focus to remain on the great importance of the song and the message of the film."

The song features in the documentary The Hunting Ground, which looks at sexual assaults on college campuses.
